Description

1795 Plain Edge Cent, MS62 Brown
Popular S-78, B-8 Variety

1795 1C Plain Edge MS62 Brown PCGS. CAC. S-78, B-8, R.1. Breen Die State III with a small die chip under the jaw, near the neck. On the obverse, the date and LIBERTY are closely spaced. ONE CENT is centered on the reverse. Breen says this reverse die was copied by Gardner from an earlier reverse as early as December 1795. The S-78 is an available variety but Mint State coins are elusive.

The smooth medium brown surfaces of this delightful MS62 example show hints of original red and traces of mint luster cling to the devices. Only minor contact marks are present and the design elements are boldly detailed throughout. Struck off-center toward 3 o'clock, with some minor crumbling of the dentils. Our EAC grade AU55.(Registry values: N2998)
