Description

1795 S-78, B-8 Cent, MS63 Brown
The Pittman Specimen

1795 1C Plain Edge MS63 Brown PCGS. S-78, B-8, R.1. Our EAC Grade MS62. Ex: Pittman. Breen Die State V. A tiny die chip is noted on the bottom edge of the jaw, below the chin. Faded clash marks are still visible, although the dies have been resurfaced to eliminate the heavy clash marks of earlier die states. This impressive Liberty Cap cent has an intricate strike with bold details on both sides. The obverse is consistently olive-brown, while the reverse is steel-gray with plentiful faded red. The reverse has many overlapping sets of clash marks. Minor planchet flaws are noted near the profile and cap. Unrecorded in Del Bland's census published in the Breen Large Cent Encyclopedia. Bill Noyes grades this piece MS60 and 10th finest known.
