Description

Scarce 1795 S-77 Cent

1795 1C Plain Edge XF Details NCS. VF25 EAC. S-77, Die State VI, High R.3. A distinctive variety as the wreath has nine different triplets, each a combination of three leaves. This reverse layout is similar to dies used in 1796, and is considered a product of the handiwork of engraver Robert Scot. This is an important late die state with extensive die cracks and bulges. The surfaces are a combination of dark steel and deep olive with some lighter tan on the devices. Patches of reddish corrosion are visible on the reverse. NCS Corroded.
