Description

The Parmelee-Newcomb-Halpern-Naftzger S-78

1795 Plain Edge S-78, R.1. Sharpness MS 61 Brown, net MS 61. An outstanding coin for the grade, the surfaces are tan and lustrous, with a hint of bluish color in the fields. Boldly struck, slightly off-center toward Liberty's cap point, on a decent planchet. Identifiable by a minute tick mark on Liberty's temple, and by the errant centering, confirming that this is the Parmelee-Newcomb specimen. Although many choice mint state examples are known, few have the illustrious pedigree that this coin has, and few could have any better surfaces or color. An important opportunity and one of the most alluring coins from the extensive MacDonald Collection.
