Description

Scarce Sheldon-119, Ex: Chapman-Hines-Downing-Brown

1796 Draped Bust S-119, R.3. Sharpness of AU 50 Lightly Porous, net VF 35. The surfaces appear to have been slightly burnished to reduce porosity on both sides, now all is toned a dark brown, nearly black, with glossy fields. Boldly struck with full device detail and thick dentils. Identifiable by a small pit left of the L of LIBERTY. One of the Nichols find varieties, this one apparently exposed to the elements a bit too long, but still very desirable overall, and with an illustrious pedigree.
