Description

Near-Census 1796 S-109 Cent, VF30

1796 1C Draped Bust, Reverse of 1794 VF30 NGC. S-109, B-15, High R.3. The original envelope identifies this as G. 6 [Gilbert-6], graded XF and priced at $50. Smooth surfaces exhibit nicely blended medium brown and steel toning with faint roughness on the reverse, typical of the S-109 die marriage. A few tiny blemishes are visible on the obverse, but the overall quality is far finer than most 1796 Draped Bust cents. This piece is tied for 10th finest out of a total surviving population of about 300 coins, although its previous pedigree remains unknown. EAC 25.
