Description

Well Struck 1796 Draped Bust Cent
Reverse of 1797, MS62 Brown, S-119

1796 1C Draped Bust, Reverse of 1797 MS62 Brown PCGS. S-119, B-40, R.3. The PCGS insert says "Reverse of 1796," when in fact this variety is the Reverse of 1797, confirmed by the following: the top of the 6 in the date is buried in the drapery, there is a double leaf under the last S in STATES and another under the D of UNITED, there is an outside berry under the stand of E, and a crack travels from the rim through the bottom of the curls and 17 of the date, with another crack below the 6. Pretty chestnut brown color graces both sides of this generally well struck, semi-gloss example. Some light marks on Liberty's portrait and a few more on the lower right reverse limit the grade. EAC 60.(Registry values: P1)
