1796 S-89 R5 Liberty Cap VF35 PCGS. Rather glossy chocolate with darker steel brown in the devices. The surfaces look smooth and the eye appeal is excellent, but a glass reveals uniform extremely faint roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris and only a few minor contact marks. The notable marks are small rim nick at the T in UNITED and a couple more at ATES. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state II early, with minor die crumbling on the tip of the nose and on the lips. The date is bold and the legends are strong. Called VF20 and tied for CC#9 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF30 net VF20 and CC#6, his photo #23180. This cataloger's EAC grade is VF25 sharpness net VF20. The attribution and Husak-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 finer: 1 in 40, 1 in 53. 35774.35/14007468.

An avid golfer whose goal was playing each of the top 100 golf courses in the U.S., Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz was an obstetrician-gynecologist in Glen Dale, West Virginia. He joined Early American Coppers in 1972 as member number 260. Shalowitz earned his medical degree from University of Maryland, completed his residency at York Hospital in Pennsylvania, and practiced for many years in Akron, Ohio. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Shalowitz was born on March 28, 1951 and began collecting Lincoln cents in his youth. He has specialized in large cents since the age of 16, and purchased Denis Loring's Sheldon-number set in 1974. Known to his friends as Bob or Shal, he passed away on April 16, 2022.
