1796 DRAPED BUST CENT, MS65 RED AND BROWN
SUPERB FINEST S-93
EX NAFTZGER-WHITNEY-CARDINAL

1796 S-93 R3 Draped Bust, Reverse of 1795, MS65 Red & Brown PCGS, CAC Approved. Choice lustrous light steel brown with mellowed mint red in protected areas on both sides, perhaps 10% of the planchet showing mint color. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is superb. Just a few trivial marks including a faint diagonal streak of darker toning from the field before the end of the nose to the bust, a speck of dark toning at the junction of the bust and neck, and a few microscopic planchet chips on the face and neck (as struck). MDS, Breen state V, with significant die failure at RICA and the fraction, but there are no cud breaks. Graded MS65 Choice and finest known ahead of the ANS example in the Noyes census, his photo #20187. Bland says MS65 and CC#1 as well. This cataloger's EAC grade is MS65. This is the Noyes plate coin for the variety in his 1991 reference. A fabulous 1796 Draped Bust cent and it comes with a great provenance--as you would expect. The attribution and Husak Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label. PCGS population 1; none finer. 35817.65/13470541.
