1797 1C Reverse of 1796, Gripped Edge AU53 ICG. S-120b, R.2. A high grade example of this scarcer variety, and one of the finer examples known, very likely a Condition Census piece. The surfaces have an even overlay of brown with just the faintest undertone of red still apparent. Very sharply struck with especially strong hair details on Liberty.
