Description

1797 Draped Bust Large Cent, AU Details
S-126 Variety, Die State IV

1797 1C Reverse of 1797, Stems -- Cleaning -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. S-126, B-16, R.3. Breen Die State IV. The PCGS number ending in .92 suggests Cleaning as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of an AU specimen that has been Cleaned and Retoned. A faint diagonal crack from the nose distinguishes this middle die state. This crisply struck and well-detailed cent is attractive despite the cleaning and probable retoning to a deep brown. The reverse is centrally weak as is diagnostic for this variety. Our EAC grade VF35.
