    1797 S-123, B-12 Cent, MS64 Brown
    Famous Nichols' Find Variety

1797 1C Reverse of 1797, Stems, S-123, B-12, R.4, MS64 Brown PCGS Secure. CAC. The Nichols' Find included a quantity of Mint State 1796 S-119, 1797 S-123, and 1797 S-135 large cents, said to be discovered at Gallows Hill in Salem, Massachusetts. It turns out that Gallows Hill was not the site where the Salem witches were executed more than a century before this coin was minted. The large cent hoard, said to be as many as 1,000 pieces, was attributed to David Nichols, having come in to the possession of the Nichols family prior to the 1860s. This impressive Choice Mint State piece retains traces of original mint red on its lustrous chestnut-brown and pale blue surfaces. Our EAC grade MS62. (NGC ID# 2242, Variety PCGS# 35909, Base PCGS# 1422)
