Description
1797 S-136 Cent, AU50
Lovely, Chocolate-Brown Survivor
1797 1C Reverse of 1797, Stems, S-136, B-7, R.3, AU50 PCGS.
Ex: The Peh Family Collection. Breen Die State III. Chocolate-brown
surfaces are nearly unabraded, save for select areas of
inconspicuous granularity on the obverse field. The holder
designates this coin as a Reverse of 1796, Gripped Edge variety.
However, the double leaf on the right wreath end reveals that this
coin has the Reverse of 1797. The weakness on the reverse is die
damage, with Noyes postulating that, "The die must have been
injured by coming into contact with some smooth object."Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2005), lot 5082; ANA Signature (Heritage, 7/2005), lot 5100.
