Description
Condition Census S-158 1798 Cent
1798 AU 50. S-158, R.4. Rich chocolate-brown patina distinguishes this impressive, scarcer variety. Struck a bit off center on the obverse with no denticles showing on the lower right portion of that side. Well struck, the only area of notable weakness is on the upper left of the reverse--an area often found weak on this variety. Peppered with numerous, small abrasions on each side, none of which are important enough to merit individual mention. Another early copper off the market since the 1930s and most likely not included in today's condition census.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2244, PCGS# 1432, GSID# 775)
