Tied 4th Finest in Bland; 6th in Noyes

1798 1C Second Hair Style, S-165, B-31, R.4, XF45 NGC. Breen Die State II. Clash marks are evident at the usual locations, although there are no apparent die cracks on this piece. The sharpness is about 10 points finer than our net grade with green verdigris visible only under a loupe. The surfaces are pleasing and glossy; cleaned and retoned to attractive light chocolate and steel-brown. Bland ranks this piece tied for fourth finest with a grade of VF25. Noyes calls it Fine 15 and tied for sixth best.
