Description

Still-Lustrous AU58 1798/7 Cent
High-Grade Example of S-152, B-13

1798/7 1C AU58 NGC. S-152, B-13, R.2. Die State II, lightly cracked from rim to ribbon. The most accessible of three overdate varieties for the year, a class that has its own Guide Book entry, and the sole use of the Wide Overdate obverse. This example is high-end for its category and offers faint rosewood undercurrents, more prominently on the reverse, against a glossy, deep brown base. While the portrait and surrounding areas show a number of small abrasions and striking weakness is noted near the T in CENT, actual wear is surprisingly minimal and the remaining luster is rewarding. Our EAC grade XF40.(Registry values: P1)
