Description

Desirable Late Die State 1800 Sheldon-208 VF 30

1800 S-208, R.3. Sharpness of VF 30, net VF 20. Glossy dark-olive in color and with decent surfaces. The fields have some microscopic porosity, but one almost has to imagine that it's there. Two dull scratches are located on the obverse, one down Liberty's face and neck, hidden by the toning, and the other in the right field near the edge, again hidden by toning. The reverse is choice and free of all but tiny circulation marks. An exciting example of the late die state of this variety; in fact, it is tied for seventh finest known with six others according to Del N. Bland's immense twelve-coin Condition Census. Furthermore, this is the plate coin for the late die state from William C. Noyes United States Large Cents 1793 - 1814.
