Description

Third Finest 1802 Error Fraction Cent

1802 1C 1/000 MS65 Brown NGC. MS60+ EAC. S-228, Die State V, R.2. The reverse die for this Error Fraction cent is the same as that found on the 1801 S-223 cent offered above. When Penny Whimsy was published, Sheldon only knew of one mint state example of this variety, a Gem MS65 coin. Today, there are five mint state examples known, including this lovely cent that is tied for third finest. This is a lustrous Gem with glossy steel-brown surfaces accented by considerable original orange luster on the reverse. Sharply struck with considerable leaf detail visible on the reverse, and only a few of the lowest leaves showing signs of blunted design features.
