Description

Original 1804 Large Cent From the Litrenta Collection.

1804 VF 25. S-266, the only known dies, R.2. Die State C. This original 1804 cent displays die breaks over RTY of LIBERTY and MERIC of AMERICA. With an estimated mintage of 96,500 pieces and a poor rate of survival, this attractive, problem-free large cent should raise some eyebrows among bidders. The surfaces exhibit even chocolate-brown patina, although we report a few isolated areas of red, tan, and dark brown toning on the reverse. While the reverse is well centered, the obverse pulls slightly to the right as typically seen on this issue. Although noticeably circulated, this specimen is much more attractive than the crude restrike manufactured by Mint officials in 1860. From the Litrenta Collection.
