1804 S-266c, B-1 Cent, Unc Details
Late Die State

1804 1C -- Obverse Graffiti -- NGC Details. Unc. S-266c, B-1, R.2. Our EAC Grade VF35. Ex: Mervis Collection. Del Bland grades this piece VF35 with the sharpness of XF45, and Bill Noyes says VF30 with the sharpness of XF45. We agree with Bland's assessment. This piece has smooth olive-brown surfaces with a few splashes of slightly deep brown patina. Faint pin scratches behind the lower hair curls appear loosely as the letters JT, as noted by Bland.

The 1804 is one of the three key dates in the early series along with 1793 and 1799. Examples are always in demand and high grade survivors are almost impossible to locate. For that reason, even coins with minor imperfections remain highly desirable.
Ex: Moritz Wormser; New Netherlands Coin Co.; Judge Thomas Gaskill; Dorothy Paschal; Gordon J. Wrubel; Chuck Furjanic; Dr. Manuel Sir; Robert L. Hughes Enterprises (10/1979), lot 23; 1980 ANA (Steve Ivy, 8/1980), lot 963; unknown later provenance.
From The Adam Mervis Large Cent Collection.
