Description

1804 Restrike MS 63 Red and Brown. In 1860 an unofficial "restrike" was manufactured of this rare date to satisfy collector demand at the time for the date. These pieces were struck from dies discarded by the mint as junk and feature an altered 1803 obverse die married with an 1820 reverse die. Also known in white metal. Much of the original red color remains on the obverse, with the reverse quite deep in hue and that side showing virtually no detail in the center.
