ATTRACTIVE 1809 S-280 CENT, AU58

1809 S-280 R2 AU58 PCGS. Glossy light to medium brown mixed with puffs of darker chocolate and olive brown toning on the lower part of the obverse and upper part of the reverse. Flowline luster covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent has excellent eye appeal. Looks mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. The only notable marks are a short diagonal hairline scratch in the field between the nose and star 4 and a couple small ticks in the field off the chin. MDS, Breen state VI, with die cracks at the top of the reverse and a small depression over the left top of the M in AMERICA. Graded AU55 net EF45 and tied for CC#17 in the Noyes census, his photos #61059. This cataloger's EAC grade is AU50. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label. PCGS population 4; 5 finer: 2 in 62, 1 in 63, 2 in 64. 36466.58/05412500.

Dr. Eugene Sherman
was born in Bronx, New York, in 1948, attended elementary school in Mississippi, and graduated from high school back in the Northeast. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he continued his education with medical training at Pittsburgh, Georgetown, and UCLA. Sherman states that he has been an obsessed coin collector since the age of eight, reading B. Max Mehl's Star Rare Coin Encyclopedia by flashlight under the covers when his parents thought he was asleep. His hobby was put aside six years later, but returned stronger than ever in the late 1980s. He plans on a "long and numismatically rich retirement."
