Description

The Third Finest Known 1811/10 Sheldon-286

1811/0 S-283, R.3. Sharpness of nearly Mint State 60, net AU 50. The third finest known of the variety behind the slightly better James A. Stack coin, and the R. E. Naftzger, Jr., coin. Boldly struck on Liberty, with medallic curls, and about half of the stars showing full radial lines. Dark-brown and even throughout in color, with ample original mint surface remaining in the fields. One patch of raised corrosion is noted surrounding the AM of AMERICA. Only the uppermost hair strands show evidence of rub, but there is not enough to warrant the description of circulation. One of the highlights of the McDonald Collection and worth a strong bid.
