1810 1C --Brockage Reverse--Fine 12 PCGS. S-285, B-2, R.2.
For its Superior auction appearance, McCawley-Grellman explained
the mint error as: "The reverse is an incuse impression of the
obverse, caused when a previously struck cent failed to eject from
the press. The brockage impression is aligned perfectly with the
normal obverse." Despite its unusual appearance, the cent
circulated for some time, and the dark brown surfaces have acquired
