Pleasing 1811/0 Overdate Cent

1811/0 1C AU53 NGC. VF30 EAC. S-286, Die State II, R.3. Contrary to conventional numismatic wisdom, Breen considered the 1811 overdate to be the second struck, and he placed this variety after the Normal Date in his Large Cent Encyclopedia. He placed the varieties in this order because the reverse die was also used for the first 1812 large cents. Additional evidence was punch-linking the reverse dies of the 1811 Normal Date coin with earlier 1810 large cents. This is a lovely cent with smooth dark chocolate surfaces and traces of frosty luster.
