Description
1814 MS 66 Red and Brown NGC. S-294, R.1. A Classic cent of this quality is unparalleled in our experience. Not only is this coin of extraordinary quality overall, but noticeable glimmers of original red color can still be seen as well on each side. The surfaces are almost perfect. We tried to nail down the pedigree of this important coin, but could not, and in part this is because there just are no large or obvious abrasions or spots on either side. The only features we see are a couple of tiny planchet voids on the cheek of Liberty, but these are so shallow we are not sure they would show up in photographs from earlier decades of auction catalogs. Unquestionably one of the finest, if not the finest, example known of the date as well as the type.
