Condition Census 1819 N-5 Cent

1819 1C Small Date MS62 Brown NGC. AU55 EAC. N-5, Middle Die State, R.3. This is a solid Condition Census example with claims for finest known of the variety. Bill Noyes recorded it as tied for finest known in his photographic record of the middle date cents, published in 1991. Incidentally, his reference was titled United States Large Cents, 1816-1839 and was printed by Litho Technical Services, owned at the time by one Wes Rasmussen. This lustrous copper has light brown color with some darker olive toning on the highpoints of the obverse. The reverse is frosty light tan with a small patch of reddish patina. A couple tiny scrapes are visible in front of Liberty's face; the surfaces are otherwise exceptional.
