Description

Early State 1819/8 N-1 Cent

1819/8 1C Large Date AU58 NGC. MS60 EAC. N-1, Early Die State, R.1. This is a diverse year for large cent varieties as discussed by John Wright: "Variability is the keynote of the cents of 1819, which boast overdates, large dates, small dates, wide dates, close dates with stars very near and far from the dates, and two distinctive letter styles on the reverse." This lovely cent has olive-brown and lighter tan surfaces with very sharp design details. Very well-centered with crisp and complete border details on both sides. It is from the earliest state of the dies without any evidence of the usual rim crumbling at the upper right portion of the obverse.
