    Top-Quality 1820/19 N-1 Cent

1820/19 1C MS64 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. N-1, Early Die State, R.1. This is a second example of the early die state with recutting of 18 and a graver scratch joining AM at their bases. It is sharply struck with full border details on both sides. The surfaces are a lustrous blend of pale olive, lighter tan, and steel brown. Golden-brown luster is faded from original red. Our consignor notes that this example is finest known and it may be. John Wright recorded the existence of seven to 10 Mint State examples of this variety, while Bill Noyes suggested that four exist in his 1991 reference. In the first edition of "Penny Prices" published in 2003, this same author listed just one Mint State example.
