Description

1820 N-12 Cent, MS65 Brown
Ex: Naftzger Collection

1820 1C Large Date MS65 Brown PCGS. N-12, R.3. Our EAC Grade MS62. Ex: Naftzger Collection. This middle die state has slightly weakened border dentils, but the die defect at star 4 remains clear. The reverse border also shows some weakness, but with complete dentilation. This lovely cent has full cartwheel luster with lovely olive-brown surfaces showing traces of faded underlying mint red. A faint hairline through the 1 in the date is the only blemish worth noting. Noyes grades this piece MS62 and third finest known. Bland says MS63 and second finest known.
Ex: Jim McGuigan; Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz; Jerry A. Bobbe (7/12/1975); C. Douglas Smith (5/1983); R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (Goldberg Coins, 2/2009), lot 106.
From The Adam Mervis Large Cent Collection.
