Description
Pleasing 1820 N-6 Cent
1820 1C Small Date AU55 NGC. VF35 EAC. N-6, Early Die State, R.4. This cent was described as an intermediate die state example in the Robinson Brown catalog, and it may be just that. The border is slightly weak, especially at the upper reverse. Such a characteristic is either indicative of slight die wear, or it is the result of imperfect centering. This is a pleasing example of the variety, although not quite in the Condition Census. The N-6 die marriage is very hard to locate in higher grades. In fact, only the N-11 and N-14 varieties have a lower Condition Census among cents of 1820. This lovely cent has medium to dark brown coloration with splashes of reddish-brown and tan on the reverse. Just a few circulation marks are consistent with the grade.Ex: W.E. Johnson; Robinson S. Brown, Jr. (Superior, 9/86), lot 533.(#91615)(Registry values: P1)
