1820 1C Small Date Unc Details NCS. AU50 EAC. N-9, Early Die State, R.3. In the Robinson Brown catalog, this cent was labeled fourth finest known, although Bill Noyes considered it to be third finest known in his 1991 reference. At the time, he graded the coin AU50, but more recently revised his opinion down to XF40 in the 2003 publication, Penny Prices. This cent is sharply struck with the obverse slightly off center. The surfaces are olive-brown with some reddish-brown color on the obverse. A few very minor ticks are present, with some faint corrosion along the left reverse border.
