Description

Attractive 1822 N-3 Cent

1822 1C AU Details NCS. AU50 EAC. N-3, Intermediate Die State, R.2. Characteristics of both the early die state and the late state are visible on this cent. Both sides have crisp and clear border details. The obverse has numerous tiny rust marks on Liberty's bust, the reverse has a tiny die chip between T and A of STATES, and there is a light die crack through the base of MERICA to the right stem. This is considered a common variety, but like all 1822 large cent varieties, it is difficult to locate in high grades. Although few of the stars are detailed, most of the design definition is bold. The borders are sharp and the wreath detail is very nicely defined. Pale yellowish-green color is accented by tan, faint blue, and traces of gold. Hints of pale orange around the devices could easily be mistaken for original mint red. NCS Improperly Cleaned.
