Description

1823 N-2 Large Cent, MS62 Brown
Nearly Condition Census

1823 1C N-2, R.2 MS62 Brown PCGS. This early die state 1823 N-2 cent has several fused denticles over stars 4 and 5, and others fused over stars 6 and 7. Both sides have full and crisp border denticles. Pleasing olive-brown and golden-tan surfaces exhibit maroon splashes at the right obverse and in several places on the reverse. A few insignificant hairline patches are evident in the fields. This is a splendid example of the scarce 1823 cent, the key date to the later large cent series from 1816 to 1857. Bill Noyes ranks this piece as tied for ninth finest in his Census. Our EAC grade AU50.
Ex: Bowers and Merena (11/1990), lot 19.
