Description

1823 1C Private Restrike, N-3, R.2, MS64 Brown PCGS. Noyes Die State I/E. Thought to be a product of the 1860s, this private production combines the 1823 Normal Date obverse, N-2, with a reverse die that appeared on 1813 S-293. The dies were sold as scrap metal by the Mint and have survived. They reside in the ANA Money Museum. This example exhibits the lengthy bold cracks, extensive rust, and lengthy obverse rim break associated with unofficial variety. A moderately prooflike chocolate-brown example with few post-strike imperfections. Our EAC grade MS60. Population: 7 in 64 Brown, 16 finer (11/18).
