    1823 Restrike Cent, MS64 Brown
    Latest Die State

1823 1C Restrike MS64 Brown NGC. The 1823 Restrike large cents, sometimes designated N-3, were likely struck in the 1860s and 1870s, although the latest die states may have been struck much later, as the dies still exist in the ANA Money Museum. This example is the latest of at least eight distinct die states. A splendid chestnut-brown example with minimal surface marks, this piece has heavy rim breaks at the upper obverse with a bisecting crack from 9:30 to 4 o'clock, and a branch crack to the border at 7:30. The reverse has a curved die crack from the D of UNITED through the wreath to the R of AMERICA, and a branch crack to the border about 11:30. Our EAC grade MS60.
