Description

1823 1C Restrike, N-3, R.2, AU58 PCGS Secure. A middle die state without the radial crack through Liberty's chin. The crack above ONE is faint but present. The reverse displays extensive rust and a rim cud exists above stars 5 and 6, as usual for the variety. A pleasing golden-brown and apple-green example. Struck outside the Mint at the time of the Civil War, or soon afterward, possibly by or for Joseph Mickley, from an 1823 obverse die and a reverse die first used in 1813. Our EAC grade AU50.
