Description

1823 1C Restrike, N-3, R.2, MS62 Brown PCGS. Thought to be a product of the 1860s, this private production combines the 1823 Normal Date obverse, N-2, with a reverse die that appeared on 1813 S-293. The obverse exhibits the prominent rim break at upper left, with a bisecting crack from 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock. There is no evidence of the branch crack down to the rim. The rusted reverse die appears here in an early die state. This lovely chestnut-brown example exhibits slight weakness on the high points. Our EAC grade AU55.
