Description

1823 1C Restrike, N-3, R.2, MS65 Brown PCGS. A well-defined and semiprooflike sea-green Gem with hints of the initial pumpkin-gold color near the obverse cuds. A relatively late die state, although the obverse radial crack at 12:30 has yet to cross the portrait. Privately struck during the 19th century from rusted and muled Mint dies sold as scrap steel; the reverse die previously coined 1813 S-293. Our EAC grade MS60.
