Description

Near-Mint 1832/2 Cent, Tied for Finest Graded

1823/2 AU 58 NGC. N-1, R.2. The '23/2 overdate cent, along with its "normal" date counterpart of the year, is undoubtedly the rarest date overall in the Matron Head cent design type, particularly when located in grades above VF. In fact, the 1823 normal date (along with the 1804 Draped Bust cent rarity), was one of two dates restruck in later years to quell the demand by 19th century collectors. The specimen offered here displays attractive violet-brown color, with irregular areas of lighter tan on the reverse. The obverse stars are typically blunt and only a few insignificant marks are present on each side. Population: 3 in 58, none finer (11/98).
