    Description

    1823/2 N-1 Cent, MS61 Brown
    Condition Census

1823/2 1C N-1, R.2, MS61 Brown NGC. Both varieties of 1823 large cents are condition rarities that are elusive in Mint State grades. This is the only Mint State 1823/2 N-1 that NGC has certified, along with a similar grade 1823 N-2, and another that is graded MS64 Brown. PCGS graded five 1823 Normal Date cents in Mint State, alongside a single MS62 Brown example of the overdate.

When all grades are considered, the overdate is a trifle more plentiful, but it is much rarer in Mint State grades. This satiny golden-brown example has splashes of lighter tan along the peripheries, with smooth surfaces that show only trivial marks, including a single noticeable pedigree marker above Liberty's head. Our EAC grade AU55.
