Description

Newcomb Plate 1825 N-6 Cent

1825 1C MS63 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. N-6, Late Die State, R.2. Both the obverse and the reverse are plated in Newcomb. A faint die crack extends through N of ONE and N of CENT. This is a common variety, even in Mint State. However, nearly all the Uncirculated coins are just MS60, like this coin, and all of these are tied for fourth finest known. Lustrous olive-brown and light tan with splashes of darker steel toning on the highpoints. A small dark toning spot on the obverse border between stars 5 and 6 identify this as the Newcomb plate coin. The reverse is similarly identified by a couple tiny spots and minor abrasions.
