Newcomb Plate 1825 N-8 Cent
1825 1C MS63 Brown NGC. MS62 EAC. N-8, Early Die State, R.2. Both the obverse and the reverse are plated in Newcomb. Like many others, this is a common variety, yet is elusive in higher grades. This coin is fourth finest known for the variety, and only marginally so, for the three finest are each just MS63. From an early die state with a perfect obverse die. We consider this to be deserving of the Red and Brown designation, for considerable original mint red color is visible on both sides, and is quite bright on the obverse. A small black corrosion spot near star 10 on the obverse and a similar spot at E of UNITED help to identify this coin on the Newcomb plates.Ex: Howard Newcomb (J.C.
