Description
1825 Cent, Good 4
Very Rare Newcomb-5
Unconfirmed Until 2011
1825 1C N-5, R.7, Good 4 PCGS. Newcomb had never encountered
an example of N-5, but listed the variety anyway in his classic
1944 reference, based upon earlier research by Frank Andrews. In
2011, Tom Deck found an example of the previously unconfirmed
marriage, which pairs the N-4 obverse and N-10 reverse. Specialists
checked their holdings, and a few more 1825 N-5 cents were
confirmed. The present piece is the eighth known, and resides in
the middle of the Condition Census for the variety. The
chocolate-brown surfaces is free from verdigris or spots.
Mentionable marks are limited to thin lines near Liberty's neck and
the T in CENT. Our EAC grade Good 4.Ex: Pre-Long Beach Auction (Ira & Larry Goldberg, 1/2015), lot 486, which realized $4,700.
