Description
Important 1826/5 N-8 Overdate Cent
1826/5 1C MS61 Brown NGC. XF45 EAC. N-8, Early Die State, R.3. Approximately the same die state as the other Newcomb-8 in this sale. Between these two coins, collectors will have an excellent opportunity to acquire a high-grade example. Olive and chocolate-brown surfaces have hints of faded mint red color. The fields are slightly reflective and are well above average with only a few insignificant abrasions and handling marks. This example is probably at the lower end of the top two dozen examples of the variety. Del Bland lists 12 Mint State coins and suggests that 11 AU grade coins exist.Ex: Stack's (3/87), lot 183; Walter Dudgeon Sale (McCawley-Grellman, 7/94), lot 76; Early American Coppers Sale (4/99), lot 452.(#1648)(Registry values: P1)
