Third Finest 1827 N-2 Cent
1827 1C MS63 Brown NGC. AU55 EAC. N-2, Usual Die State, R.3. Like all known examples, this coin has the lower reverse dentils merged together, from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock. This specimen is tied for third finest known of the variety with one other coin. Only two finer examples are currently known, with a third reported but not seen since 1932. A Choice MS63 traces its pedigree back to the George Earle Collection of 1912, and a single one-sided proof example is part of the ANS Collection. Lovely light brown color provides considerable eye appeal. A couple unobtrusive scratches on Liberty's cheek and neck are blended with the rest of the coin.Ex: New Hampshire Numismatics (Jim Payette, 8/83).(#1651) (Registry values: N991)
