Description
Mint State 1827 N-5 Cent
1827 1C MS65 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. N-5, Intermediate Die State, R.2. This intermediate die state example has a few of the light cracks mentioned by John Wright, but without the heavy die cracks at the lower left obverse, seen in the latest die states. Quite a few Mint State examples of the N-5 die combination are known, and this is probably one of the five or six finest. The surfaces have frosty luster with delightful light brown coloration, accented by pale blue toning. The surfaces are outstanding with only a couple blemishes. This lovely example will be appreciated by the connoisseur.Ex: Henry C. Hines; Dr. William H. Sheldon; Floyd Starr (Stack's, 6/84), lot 196; John J. Nicholas (Superior, 2/92), lot 538.(#1651) (Registry values: N2998)
