Description

1829 N-7 Cent, MS62 Brown
Noyes Plate Coin
High Condition Census

1829 1C Large Letters MS62 Brown NGC. N-7, R.3. Our EAC Grade AU55. Tied for the second finest known 1829 N-7 cent. The top four examples in the Noyes census are all noted as Naftzger coins, and the other three appeared in the 2009 sale of his middle date cents. However, this example was not part of that sale.

The upper Noyes plate coin for N-7 in his 1991 reference, and also photographed in his 2012 reference as the representative for the N-7 die state combination of obverse A and reverse C. The "Four Spokes" die state with four radial die cracks on the reverse. An additional crack wanders from a leaf tip above the ribbon. The obverse shows repunching on several letters in LIBERTY but unlike N-6, the 1 in the date is small. This cent is remarkably free from contact or carbon. The chocolate-brown surfaces appear flawless aside from an inconspicuous mahogany-brown spot at the left end of the bar beneath CENT. The strike is generally soft except on the dentils and the reverse peripheral legend.
Ex: Bruno Crossfield (1956); Willard B. Blaisdell (1976); R.E. Naftzger, Jr.
