Description
Condition Census 1830 N-3 Cent
1830 1C Large Letters MS65 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. N-3, Usual Die State, R.3. This lovely cent is tied for sixth finest known according to Del Bland's Condition Census notes. Only a couple examples qualify at the basic MS60 grade level, with fewer than a half dozen AU coins currently known. The 1830 N-3 variety is certainly difficult to locate in higher grades. If you have been seeking an attractive example for your collection, take a run at this one. You will not be disappointed. The obverse die exhibits cracks through the date, three stars to the left, and four stars to the right. An additional faint crack is visible through the upper obverse stars; the usually seen die state for this variety. While only considered an MS60 example by EAC standards because of the even olive-brown color, NGC has certified this as a Gem quality example on the strength of its luster, strike, and pristine surfaces. There are only a few tiny abrasions, most notable inside the wreath above ONE.Ex: Denis W. Loring (8/80); Dr. Dane B. Nielsen; 1982 Early American Coppers Sale, lot 341; R.E.
