1830 N-3 Cent, MS64 Brown
Possible Condition Census
1830 1C Large Letters, N-3, R.3, MS64 Brown PCGS. Noyes Die
State B/C. Double-clashed above the wreath ribbon and near the T in
CENT. The several obverse die cracks are characteristic of N-3.
When we offered this coin in our New York Signature Sale of
October-November 2015, NGC assigned a grade of MS63 Brown and we
were conservative in our EAC-grade assessment of AU55 due to
trivial marks on Liberty's cheek. The following year, Bob Grellman
assigned a grade of MS63 and suggested that this piece is "clearly
in the condition census for this variety." Plentiful hints of mint
red outline design elements, but this satiny cent is mostly toned
deep brown. Smooth aside from minor contact on the cheek and a spot
near the E in CENT. Our EAC grade MS62. PCGS Large Letters
Population: 24 in 64 Brown (2 in 64+), 11 finer. PCGS N-3
Population: 1 in 64 Brown, 1 finer (11/21).Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 10/2015), lot 3761; Goldberg Auctions (9/2016), lot 512.
